Utrecht is one of the Netherlandsà oldest cities. It was built on the remains of a Roman settlement dating from 47 AD, and has been the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Utrecht since the 7th century. Nowadays, Utrecht is surrounded by a network of roads, and is a main hub of the rail network. That makes it an ideal location for the Jaarbeurs, a huge conference and exhibition centre.
